Assistant Principal

Location: Miami-Dade Acceleration Academy (Central)

Compensation: $75,000

Employment Type: Full-time

The Role:

The Assistant Principal collaborates with the Principal to oversee academy operations, ensuring the organization’s mission is executed locally. This role requires a student-focused administrator committed to supporting the leadership and growth of our innovative blended learning model. Key responsibilities include setting expectations, supporting and holding staff accountable, ensuring equitable programming for diverse learners, building community partnerships, and using data to drive program improvements. The Assistant Principal also ensures fiscal sustainability, compliance with regulations, and leverages resources to enhance enrollment and student outcomes, creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment.


Key Responsibilities:

Student Enrollment & Engagement:

  • Support recruitment and enrollment efforts to bring new students into the academy.
  • Facilitate student orientation to ensure a welcoming start.
  • Oversee data reviews and collaborative staff meetings to track and enhance student engagement.

Retention & Student Support:

  • Train and guide staff in retention strategies to maintain consistent student participation.
  • Cultivate a positive school culture aligned with Acceleration Academies’ vision.
  • Utilize technology and learning platforms to monitor and support student progress.

Academic Leadership:

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal education mandates, including Exceptional Student Education (ESE), English Language Learners (ELL), and Title IX requirements.
  • Assist with data-driven instructional decision-making processes.
  • Support the development of personalized learning pathways and graduation plans for students.
  • Conduct regular formative and summative assessments to track student progress.

Advocacy & Community Relations:

  • Collaborate with the Principal to build relationships with school districts and community organizations.
  • Strengthen connections among staff, students, and their families to create a collaborative learning environment.
  • Coordinate with external services to address non-academic barriers, such as access to health or social services.

Operational & Staff Leadership:

  • Create and maintain a well-organized, inviting academy environment.
  • Oversee staffing schedules to ensure adequate and effective coverage at all sites.
  • Support staff development through coaching, feedback, and regular performance reviews.
  • Conduct IEP (Individualized Education Plan) meetings and support compliance with student accommodations.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Participate in academy meetings and district collaborations.
  • Manage student incentives to encourage progress and achievement.
  • Perform other duties to ensure the smooth operation of the academy.


What We’re Looking For:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education or a related field preferred.


Experience:

  • Prior experience as an Assistant Principal or in other leadership role in a school setting.
  • Experience working with at-risk youth in alternative education settings.
  • Training or experience in case management within educational or social service environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to support disengaged students, fostering academic and personal breakthroughs to enhance their success.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Experience with project-based learning, portfolio assessment, competency-based education, cooperative learning, and integrating school-to-career experiences.


 Preferred Skills:

  • Florida Education Leadership Certification (highly preferred)
  • Prior work or volunteer experience with at-risk students in alternative settings.
  • Expertise in workshop or coaching-based instructional approaches.
  • Strong commitment to fostering a Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) culture for students and staff.
  • Proficiency with technology in an educational setting, including Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Passion for supporting students’ academic and personal breakthroughs.
