About the Role
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) to provide specialized care, treatment, and security to patients and residents at a State Hospital in Arizona. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment while working with individuals experiencing serious mental health conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 24/7 care, treatment, and supervision to patients.
- Observe, interact, and guide patients while modeling appropriate behaviors.
- Respond to behavioral incidents, including physical interventions when necessary.
- Assist in behavior management emergency procedures for violent or suicidal patients.
- Co-lead life skills and therapeutic groups.
- Escort and supervise patients during visitations, meals, and off-unit activities.
- Assist with daily living activities, including hygiene and nutrition.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient interactions and incidents.
- Conduct room inspections and assist in contraband searches.
- Enforce hospital policies and procedures to ensure safety and compliance.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with seriously mentally ill (SMI) adults in inpatient psychiatric or forensic mental health settings.
- Knowledge of:
- Crisis intervention strategies
- Human behavior and communication dynamics
- Behavior management techniques
- Facility policies and procedures for behavioral interventions
- Ability to:
- Observe and interpret behaviors in psychiatric patients
- Implement treatment plans effectively
- Follow verbal and written directives from supervisory staff
Certifications & Clearances Required:
- High school diploma/GED (or higher education as required)
- Valid CPR certification (American Heart Association standard)
- Valid CPI Blue Card (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills)
- Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card (Arizona DPS)
- Negative TB screening (within the last 12 months)
