Job Overview: The Mechanical Engineer designs, builds and tests various mechanical devices. Their main duties include locating problems with various machinery, documentation, troubleshooting, conducting experiments to improve different product designs and using CAD technology to build product designs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Document Management: Organize and maintain technical documents including drawings, specifications, and BOMs, in a PDM system. Ensure all documents are version controlled, accessible, and up to date.
- Work Instructions: Collaborate with internal SMEs to develop and maintain standardized work instructions for assembly and installation of hydraulic components that are clear, concise, and accurate. Create visual aids (e.g., exploded views, diagrams) to supplement written instructions.
- Customer-Focused Documentation: Develop user manuals, installation guides, and troubleshooting resources for hydraulic kits, valves, and other components. Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to create clear, customer-friendly materials tailored to specific demands in hydraulic applications and market trends.
- Customer Support & Troubleshooting: Function as the primary technical expert (SME) to address customer-based hydraulic system-related queries, help resolve hydraulic product issues and support swift resolution and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Quality Assurance: Participate in inspections and testing components to verify conformance with specifications. Create or update quality checklists for after-market components.
- Product/Market Development: Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to understand specific demands in hydraulic applications and market trends. Investigate and engage with customers in emerging sectors such as industrial manufacturing, mobile equipment, construction, farming, mining, and transportation for hydraulic integration possibilities. Help identify new opportunities to break into new hydraulic application markets or enhance our presence in existing sectors.
- CAD Drawing and Design: Use CAD tools to intricately design and modify hydraulic components like pumps, motors, valves, and cylinders to support product development and sourcing utilizing GD&T principles. Collaborate with the production team to ensure hydraulic designs are both innovative and manufacturable (DFM). Enhance existing hydraulic system designs for superior performance and efficiency. Stay ahead of the curve by mastering emerging CAD tools geared specifically towards hydraulic applications.
- Continuous Improvement: Systematically assess and refine hydraulic components and system development processes. Stay current with hydraulic technology advancements, attending workshops and seminars pertinent to the field.
- Product Catalog Management: Maintain and update technical information for the product catalogs, including dimensions, materials, and compatibility details. Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure accuracy in technical data provided to customers.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Represent Engineering in various collaborative efforts with Sales, Marketing, and R&D, to ensure a holistic approach to hydraulic product development.
Qualifications and Skills:
- B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Advanced proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks)
- A minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience (hydraulic applications and design is a plus)
- Sharp analytical skills with an emphasis on hydraulic system troubleshooting
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
