Job Summary
As an Infection Preventionist, you will work closely with the Director of Nursing, Medical Director, and other key stakeholders to develop and implement infection prevention strategies. Your primary responsibility is to reduce the incidence and transmission of infectious diseases among residents, staff, visitors, and the community. This critical role involves strategic planning, education, leadership, and the implementation of infection prevention goals and objectives across the facility.

Duties and Responsibilities
As an Infection Preventionist, your responsibilities include:
Partnering with the Medical Director, Infectious Disease MD/NP, and Corporate Infection Preventionist to establish and evaluate annual infection prevention goals and action plans.
Collaborating with facility leaders, physicians, and local, state, and national agencies on infection prevention activities.
Overseeing infection prevention, epidemiology, workplace hygiene, and safety programs.
Conducting surveillance of healthcare-acquired and community-acquired infections.
Setting and managing system-wide, unit-specific, and physician goals related to healthcare-acquired infections.
Leading workplace hygiene programs, including TB screening, vaccination programs, and adherence to Core Principles of Infection Prevention and Control.
Participating in national collaboratives and external reporting to the CDC NHSN system and other quality organizations.
Addressing infection trends, outbreaks, and non-compliance issues with education and intervention for staff, volunteers, and medical staff.
Providing education and counseling on infection prevention for staff, residents, and representatives.
Supporting and participating in monthly interdisciplinary performance and quality improvement processes.
Maintaining knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and ensuring facility compliance.
Attending monthly QAPI, daily IDT, and weekly Facility Infection meetings.
Gathering, analyzing, and reporting data on facility-acquired infections and managing the Antibiotic Stewardship Program.
Managing flu and pneumonia vaccination programs, including maintaining logs and conducting wellness days.
Conducting daily facility rounds across all departments to inspect infection control practices and environmental cleaning.
Contacting local health departments and submitting appropriate reports as necessary.
Reviewing and implementing infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
To excel as an Infection Preventionist, you will need:
A current nursing license.
Certification in Infection Prevention and Control.
Specialty training in Infection Prevention and Control through accredited continuing education.
A minimum of two years of experience in a long-term care (LTC) setting.
Strong observation, verbal, and written communication skills.
Self-direction and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
The ability to collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals.
Salary : $75,000 - $90,000
