Job Description

Job Purpose :

It is the primary responsibility of the Engineer to perform preventive and ongoing maintenance of the hotel, casino, back of house, and retail areas within the property. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental policies, practices, and procedures. The Engineer must be proficient and versatile in one or more building trades : electrical, painting, carpentry, industrial plumbing, HVAC, kitchen appliances, swimming pools, and general mechanics.

Duties & Functions :

  • Receive and respond to maintenance calls in the hotel from guests and other departments.
  • Troubleshoot and repair lighting fixtures, plumbing, and electrical issues.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, pumps, boilers, and energy management systems.
  • Work with power ranging from low to medium voltages.
  • Operate scissor and boom lifts and climb ladders to access elevated areas when certified.
  • Respond to life safety system and fire alarm panel, locating the area of alarm, and dispatching it to Engineering personnel to take action.
  • Read and understand blueprints.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area throughout the property.
  • Handle guest complaints ensuring guest satisfaction.
  • Perform preventive maintenance in the Guestrooms related to painting, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, audio-video, and communications to keep the room in optimum condition daily.
  • Perform preventive maintenance in all common areas of the hotel on a daily basis.
  • Maintain inventory in the shop, ensuring orders are made to keep stock of all necessary items.
  • Conduct property walks recording all equipment readings, checking common area lighting, irrigation system functions, and the condition of safety systems, identifying and reporting any deficiencies immediately.
  • Any other reasonable duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
  • Provide lateral service as needed in the spirit of exceptional service.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to provide clear direction to the venue teams.
  • Remain calm and alert during emergency situations and / or heavy activity, serving as a role model for team members.
  • Make decisions and take actions based on experience and good judgment, sometimes revising procedures for unusual situations.

    This position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time determined by the supervisor based on company requirements.

  • Attend mandatory meetings including divisional and staff meetings.
  • Participate in community events and ensure corporate social responsibility goals are met.
  • Utilize software programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Micros, ADP, Open Table, and any departmental specific systems.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Ensure confidential documents are secured and disposed of properly.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Department Head.
  • Demonstrate positive leadership characteristics to inspire Team Members.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • OTHER DUTIES

    Assimilate into the company’s culture through understanding, supporting, and participating in all company elements. Regular attendance is essential for successful performance in this position.

    Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules based on business needs.

    SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

    Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required when performing work duties that pose a risk to health or safety. The restaurant will provide the required PPE, and team members will be trained in its use and care. Report defective or lost PPE to your Manager.

    Requires the ability to lift large packages and boxes, with a minimum lift capacity of 50 lbs. without assistance and the ability to push and pull up to 150 lbs. with appropriate equipment.

    GROOMING / UNIFORMS

    All employees must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance. Specific uniform guidelines will be explained during orientation.

    Additional language ability preferred.

    Qualifications

    SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

    The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • College Degree in Business, Hospitality, or a Related field preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a public contact position, preferably in an upscale or lifestyle brand hotel.
  • Proven team leader with a high level of energy and motivation.
  • Intermediate to proficient understanding of computer systems such as Opera, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
  • Ability to enter and locate work-related information using computers and / or point of sale systems.
  • Ability to spend extended lengths of time viewing a computer screen.
  • Possess a gracious, friendly, and fun demeanor.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with other employees and departments.
  • Ability to work independently and partner with others to promote teamwork.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for a minimum of eight hours.
  • Must be observant and quick to respond to various situations while multitasking and handling stress.
  • Must be able to twist, push or pull, reach, bend, climb, and carry objects as necessary.
  • Excellent communication skills in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Must be able to work inside and outside throughout the year based on business volumes.
