Head Start Teacher

Position available in Friendship, NY
10 months
35 hours/week, generally Monday – Friday, 8:00 am - 3:30 pm, with some evening and weekend work required
Supports the school readiness of children and families by planning and implementing developmentally appropriate learning experiences, organizing, and documenting each child and family’s individualized services, and by maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment.
EDUCATION: An associates, bachelors or advanced degree in child development or early childhood education -or-
An associates, bachelors, or advanced degree in a related field with 18 credit hours in coursework related to early childhood education with experience teaching preschool children. -or-
A bachelor’s degree and has been admitted into the Teach For America program, passed a rigorous early childhood content exam, such as the Praxis II, participated in a Teach For America summer training institute that includes teaching preschool children, and is receiving ongoing professional development and support from Teach For America's professional staff.
EXPERIENCE: Six months experience teaching preschool children required for related degree (see above). Must demonstrate competency to provide effective and nurturing teacher-child interactions, plan and implement learning experiences that ensure effective curriculum implementation and use of assessment and promote children’s developmental progress, including children with disabilities and dual language learners
