Description
Cleans and keeps in an orderly condition assigned areas and washrooms, or premises of an office, VA medical facility, or other government establishment. Duties involve a combination of the following: Sweeping, mopping or scrubbing, and polishing floors; removing chips, trash, and other refuse; dusting equipment, furniture, or fixtures; polishing metal fixtures or trimmings; providing supplies and minor maintenance services; and cleaning lavatories, showers, and restrooms. Cleaning tasks could include but not be limited to the following:
Clean & sanitize wash basins, mirrors, commodes and urinals; Clean dividers, soap/towel/paper dispensers and refill as necessary; Clean hardware, horizontal surfaces and walls and tiles in shower; Damp mop floors; Empty trash receptacle and replace liners; Clean non-tiles walls and ceilings. Clean shelves and cabinets.
Clean the Canteen Service Dining area tables, damp mop floors, empty & clean trash receptacle and replace liners, clean picture frames, Windowsills, and stairwells.
Clean the Administrative Area tables & floors; clean/dust horizontal surfaces, walls, ceiling, baseboards, counter tops. Clean upholstered furniture; clean all telephones with germicide, dust/clean blinds; dust furniture; empty and reline trash cans; vacuum carpet, clean chairs, picture frames, windowsills, and exterior of light fixtures; spray Buff floors; strip and refinish floors periodically; shampoo carpets periodically, spot Clean carpets as needed; clean entrances & glass inside/out; wipe down ledge’s windowsills/ledges (Inside & Outside).
Areas to be cleaned are NOT limited to: Corridors/hallways, outpatient care areas, restrooms, elevators, lobbies, entrances, and others as required.
Requirements
· MUST be able to pass a standard background check and be cleared to work in a VA Medical Facility.
· Military veteran preferred
· Functions well around patients, staff and visitors in a clinical setting
· Proven experience as custodian, janitor or in a similar role
· Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances
· Knowledge of safe disposal of chemicals
· Attention to detail and conscientiousness
· Very good physical condition and strength
· High school diploma is preferred but not required
