The Distance Learning Coordinator is the college’s point of contact for distance learning. The coordinator is responsible for managing the college's online and hybrid learning programs, including development, implementation, and evaluation. This includes overseeing the learning management system, providing support for faculty and students, and ensuring quality and compliance with relevant standards and regulations. The director also collaborates with other stakeholders in the development and delivery of high-quality courses. Travel to instructional sites, meetings, and conferences may be required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Develop and maintain a comprehensive Distance Learning Plan. Develop and manage the distance learning program budget. Ensure distance learning program compliance with SACSCOC, State Board of Education, and other accrediting, certifying, or regulatory bodies. Collaborate with the Office of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness to plan and implement evaluation measures for student and faculty assessment of distance learning courses and to provide documentation required by state and federal agencies and accrediting/certifying bodies. Collaborate with the Office of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness and the Dean of Instruction to develop strategies for integrating student learning assessment within the LMS. Collaborate with academic support personnel and orientation advisors to provide students with information regarding distance learning courses. Collaborate with the LRC to provide support for online library user instruction to promote effective information literacy skills among students. Collaborate with the College’s Director of PR/Marketing to develop and maintain the distance learning pages on the ESCC website. Coordinate with the Dean of Administrative Services on applicable bids, contracts, and grants. Coordinate with the ACCS Canvas Team to maintain the learning management system (Canvas). Remain current on the technical aspects of the college’s learning management system. Research and evaluate new and emerging technologies, instructional design theories, and policies/regulations for possible application to instructional opportunities; implement changes to program as needed. Proactively engage in research, organizations, and other relationships that promote and educate on current distance learning issues, online instructional strategies, instructional design tools and technologies. Chair the ESCC Distance Learning Advisory Committee and serve on college committees as assigned. Develop and maintain, along with the Distance Learning Advisory Committee, the distance learning faculty and student handbooks. Work with the Distance Learning Advisory Committee to evaluate and recommend technologies related to distance learning and perform all activities related to implementing selected technologies. Assist college administrators and division chairs in developing and implementing distance learning program plans and strategies. Collaborate with instructional divisions, staff, and administrators to establish and maintain college standards for distance learning course format, content, and delivery. Remain current on best practices pertaining to distance learning course development and delivery; assist faculty to implement best practices, including basic course standardization. Assist faculty in the development, design, maintenance, delivery, and evaluation of online and hybrid courses, while ensuring that the courses are of the same rigor and quality as that of face-to-face courses. Assist faculty with integration between publisher content and learning management system content. Provide and/or facilitate effective training for full-time and adjunct faculty and maintain records and report data of faculty distance learning training to both the Dean of Instruction and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning. Maintain the ESCC Canvas template and any template resources made available to students and faculty. Create shells in the LMS for clubs, organizations, tutoring, etc. Provide LMS technical support for all college faculty, staff, and students. Assist the Dean of Instruction in resolving grade appeals and other disputes pertaining to distance learning courses through the provision of reports and usage data.
