Position Title: Quality Control Manager
Shift: 1st Shift 6am-2:30pm
Location: Waukegan, IL
Pay: $100-120k
Position Summary:
The Quality Control Manager is responsible for overseeing quality manuals, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with ISO-certified Quality Management System (QMS) requirements. This role develops and maintains inspection procedures and quality standards to meet internal business needs and customer expectations. The manager plays a key role in enhancing quality across customer interactions, production, and supply chain operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the quality department, including the Analytical Lab and Micro Lab, across three shifts.
- Oversee sample collection and analysis in the lab to assess product quality.
- Monitor and improve the performance of quality control systems for effectiveness and efficiency.
- Conduct routine and specialized testing of raw materials, in-process materials, environmental samples, and finished products.
- Ensure laboratory procedures align with customer specifications.
- Generate reports related to product/process nonconformance, root cause analysis, and quality trends.
- Maintain and manage all current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) documentation.
- Serve as a technical liaison with customer QC departments.
- Validate inspection processes against quality standards and customer specifications.
- Develop, implement, and oversee Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the department.
- Ensure accurate completion of all QC documentation, including forms and reports.
- Ensure regulatory compliance with FDA, EPA, AIB, and OSHA requirements.
- Investigate and resolve customer quality complaints and issues.
- Audit and revise quality standards, and develop supporting documentation for data tracking.
- Oversee facility audits and manage corrective actions related to quality issues.
- Implement training programs and coordinate communication within the department.
- Ensure all personnel are appropriately trained and supported.
- Provide 24-hour support for QC teams across all shifts as needed
Qualifications:
- BS Degree in Chemistry or Biology preferred
- Minimum 5 years of industry experience
- At least 3 years in a leadership role within quality control, preferably in liquid fill manufacturing
- Experience in a commercial laboratory environment
- Working knowledge of ISO standards, CAPA, FMEA, etc.
- Familiarity with validation protocols including IQ-OQ-PQ
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Effective conflict resolution and team-building abilities
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven presentation capabilities
- Ability to build trust with clients and regulatory personnel
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands
- Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch
- Must be able to work in noisy environments and communicate effectively
- Requires close and distance vision, depth perception, and ability to distinguish details
