Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Steel Shop Drawing Checker with expertise in structural steel and miscellaneous metal detailing. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing and marking up shop and erection drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards (AISC, AWS, AWWA, API) as well as compliance with Contract Documents (owner’s plans and specs). The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and proficiency in AutoCAD and Excel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and mark up shop and erection drawings for accuracy, completeness, adherence to drafting standards, and compliance with project specifications.
- Interpret and verify contract drawings, shop drawings, and project specifications.
- Verify dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, and assembly instructions.
- Collaborate with project teams, providing feedback and necessary corrections.
- Maintain and update project files, ensuring repeat designs and necessary alterations are documented.
- Updating our standard drawings to ensure mistakes are not carried through in future projects.
- Check up to 40 drawings per day across 7 to 8 projects simultaneously.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a high-volume environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural steel or miscellaneous metal detailing and checking.
- Significant experience in reviewing, checking, and providing mark-ups of other drafter’s shop drawings.
- Strong AutoCAD software skills.
- Thorough knowledge of structural steel fabrication and erection processes as well as welding procedures and welding callouts.
- Ability to read and interpret contract drawings, shop drawings, and erection drawings.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with management and steel detailers.
Preferred:
- Experience with Adobe Acrobat software.
- Candidates with a strong structural steel background but slightly less than 5 years of experience may be considered if they meet all other qualifications.
Job Type: Full-time This is a full-time position, and general hours of work and days are Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Pay: $37,440.00 - $60,000.00 per year
