The Athletic Coordinator is responsible for coordinating athletic programs across the Acero Schools network.  The Athletic Coordinator is responsible for looking for innovative ways to develop the program. The Athletic Coordinator manages the department budget and payments to tournaments, vendors and officials.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate the athletic program, both at the elementary and high school levels; will specifically help administer and supervise athletic events including regular attendance at games, practices, and sports related meetings (e.g. pre-season meetings with parents, coaches' meetings, workshops with parents and coaches, etc.). 
  • Develop and monitor athletic budget. 
  • Create practice and game schedules to maximize student participation. 
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Acero Schools, Chicago Public Schools (CPS) Department of Sports Administration, and Illinois High School Association (IHSA) policies, procedures, guidelines, standards, and best research practices. 
  • Monitor student eligibility (academic and medical) and attendance/participation in athletic activities. 
  • Develop and implement rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic participants. 
  • Communicate with and organize parent volunteers; ensure the active involvement of parents in support of athletic programming; recruit and support parent volunteers who might serve as coaches, team managers or athletic parent leaders; communicate with parents and the network at-large about programs and policies through the creation of regular newsletters. 
  • Contract and ensure proper payment of officials. 
  • Maintain the accuracy and completion of essential athletic data (e.g. rosters, scores, standings, participation numbers). 
  • Support in organizing events, tournaments and award ceremonies. 
  • Order and inventory needed equipment, supplies and uniforms. 
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner, serving as a positive role model for youth and for the network at-large.
  • Promote the safety and well-being of student athletes. 
  • Use positive coaching techniques that include appropriate language, instruction and encouragement to help players develop fundamental skills and learn valuable lessons.  
  • Demonstrate sportsmanship, including respect for student athletes, parents, official staff, and administrators.
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (preferred). 
  • First Aid certification (required). 
  • Experience working in youth sports directly with children (as a coach, administrator, or educator). 
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment. 
  • Capable of self-directed work, with attention to detail; excellent communication, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. 
  • Vehicle and valid driver’s license required.
  • Fluent in Spanish (preferred). 
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States (required).

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

 

The nature of the work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files, and an ability to communicate and exchange information. Physical demands include the ability to stand, bend, reach high and low, stoop, and walk around the classroom 60% of the day. In addition, candidates must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20 lbs. for short periods of time, and walk up and down stairs several times a day.

 

Majority of work is performed in a general school environment. Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties. Also requires participation and attendance at organization-sponsored events and meetings.
