The Role:

The Sanitation Lead is knowledgeable about ATP swabbing, GMP’s, HACCP, FDA, OHSA, SQF, Customer audits, and other food safety and hygiene requirements. This role must clearly understand, enforce, coach, and reiterate the principles of workplace and food safety.

This position is set to work on the plant's 3rd shift: 11pm to 7am CST, Monday-Friday, including weekends. There may be a need to work any off shift, including holidays, as needed.

This position is classified as a Salaried Non-exempt position. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, this means the position is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable law. Salaried Nonexempt employees, will be required to accurately track all time worked, including meal breaks and time off, within the company's time keeping system.


What You'll Do:

  • Work safely and report all safety concerns to supervision immediately. Follow safety rules as it relates to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Follow all corporate health and safety and food safety policy

  • Maintain area cleanliness and organization.
  • Ensure team members have required equipment to perform tasks. Understand which tools and equipment can be taken into food manufacturing environment. Ensure all tools are accounted for when tasks are complete.
  • Pre-rinse, wash, and sanitize equipment per company standards.
  • Visually inspect equipment prior to beginning sanitation process. Afterwards, ensure proper reinstallation and that no damage occurred during the cleaning process. Complete sanitation checklist. Set-up line and all equipment to company standards prior to a production run.
  • Work directly with sanitation leadership and quality control technicians to correct cleaning deficiencies that may exist after inspection. Communicate and work with production to ensure that shutdown and line release to sanitation meets standards. Complete line release check sheet and have production representative sign.
  • Understand proper usage of cleaning chemicals, including safety, measurements, and applications of the chemical.
  • Establish priorities and work independently without direct supervision. Plan work schedules and team assignments to ensure the business needs are met or exceeded.
  • Ensure on-time start-ups by providing timely hygienic environment so food can be produced in accordance with corporate food safety policy guidelines.
  • Understand and follow hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP) and good manufacturing practices (GMP).
  • Apply basic math principles as they relate to product usage and dilution rates.
  • Properly clean and sanitize equipment, which includes but is not limited to machines, rooms, walkways, building interior and exterior perimeter.
  • Clean all types of surfaces, from many different positions and angles (underneath, in-between, above or inside).
  • Understand and perform tasks that require lockout/ tag out and properly cover moisture sensitive equipment.
  • Train new team members. Lead team on daily duties and ensure assigned tasks are completed. Ensure that every member on the team understands their responsibilities and are properly training and equipped to perform job.
  • Able to perform all jobs in sanitation.
  • Performs other duties as required.


What You'll Need:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent education (i.e. GED)
  • 3 years of sanitation experience (preferably in a food manufacturing or packaging environment)
  • Good communications skills, dependable, safety conscious
  • Good decision-making skills.
  • Ability to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer terminal, and retrieve information from employee files and answer phones.
  • Record data and document cleaning and training conducted.
  • Observational skills to distinguishing different types of chemicals and documentation requirements.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and OT as needed.

Physical Demands:

  • Standing, walking, or climbing 100% of the time.
  • Frequently twist, bend, stoop, push or pull when preforming work tasks.
  • Frequently carry or lift 20 pounds or more.
  • Occasionally push or pull 500lb modules.
  • Able to frequently flex, extend and turn the neck.
  • Able to work in cold, wet, hot, dusty, slippery and/or close space area(s) for long periods of time.
  • The employee must be able to work in high areas (work at high and tall heights).

Salary Range:

  • Starting Salary Range: $61,400 - $75,800 USD annual salary range.
  • This is the starting base pay range. Exact compensation will vary based on the candidates' qualifications, job related knowledge and experience and specific location.
