Key Responsibilities:
- Build supportive, trust-based relationships with individuals in recovery.
- Provide peer mentoring and encouragement through lived experience and active listening.
- Assist clients in setting and achieving personal recovery goals.
- Connect individuals with community resources, including treatment programs, housing, employment, and social services.
- Support clients in developing healthy coping strategies and relapse prevention plans.
- Advocate for clients in healthcare, legal, and social service settings.
- Help clients navigate barriers to recovery, such as stigma, financial concerns, or legal issues.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions while ensuring confidentiality.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to provide holistic support.
- Promote harm reduction strategies and wellness-oriented lifestyle changes.
- Uphold ethical guidelines and professional boundaries as outlined by certification bodies.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Personal experience with recovery from substance use or mental health challenges (with a minimum stable recovery period of two years).
- Certification as a Peer Recovery Coach (PRC) or Certified Peer Specialist (CPS).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening and motivational interviewing.
- Knowledge of community resources, recovery models (e.g., 12-step, SMART Recovery, harm reduction), and trauma-informed care.
- Ability to work with diverse populations with empathy and cultural competence.
- Basic knowledge of documentation and confidentiality laws (e.g., HIPAA compliance).
- Passionate about advocacy and reducing stigma around addiction and mental health.
