Job Title: Staff Accountant

SUMMARY: Responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions of the agency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. To successfully perform this job, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Assists with maintenance of financial records including keeping a record of cash, processing and depositing receipts, processing payables and journal entries, and completing bank reconciliations.
- Ensures that expenses and revenues are booked properly, tying to departmental budgets, and informs appropriate staff of variances.
- Prepares and updates monthly balance sheet account analysis including all reconciliations and backup documentation.
- Prepares monthly financial statements for review, maintains and periodically reviews proper account records and accounting files, statements, reports, and analyses.
- Produces and distributes monthly reports for program and administrative staff including income statements by department.
- Provides back up to Accounts Payable Administrative Coordinator.
- Follows up with outstanding receivables. Provides assistance to Camp with maintenance of their accounts receivable.
- Performs various special projects as assigned by Accounting Manager and/or Controller.
- Prepares schedules for and in conjunction with external Auditors.
- Performs random audits of petty cash at each location on a quarterly basis.
- Participates with supervisor in developing and implementing an annual plan for professional growth aligned with the annual evaluation and agency goals.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS listed below are indicative of knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be successful in this position.
Education, Training, and/or Experience
- Bachelor degree in Accounting or a related field.
- 3-4 years of general ledger and accounting experience.
- Extensive knowledge of high level Excel tools and features.
- Experienced user of accounting software, preferably QuickBooks.
- Solid, demonstrated understanding of accounting concepts.
