PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR
Reports to: Production Manager
Status : Exempt
Hours : M-F, 1st shift,
Travel : < 5%
POSITION SUMMARY:
This Production Supervisor is a key leader who is responsible for ensuring that manufacturing commitments are met safely, on time, to standard, and with the highest level of quality possible.
The Production Supervisor provides hands-on line supervision and direction to a culturally diverse team of Assemblers, Leads, and support personnel in order to meet production goals. The production supervisor gathers data, observes production processes, and uses metrics and process monitors to predict and plan continuous improvement opportunities. The production supervisor is responsible for identifying, collaborating and implementing enhancements to production efficiencies, resource planning and training needs, line layouts, equipment optimization, and quality initiatives. As such, the Supervisor may facilitate or contribute to a variety of process and project teams. These activities may be complex, long-term, and have a significant business impact.
The Production Supervisor is responsible for Assembly, Equipment and Production Support functions. The production supervisor manages up to 80 employees assigned to multiple schedules within a warehouse/manufacturing facility.
PRIMARY ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Schedule Attainment
- Uses appropriate tools, such as check sheets, metrics, WIP management techniques (KanBan, FIFO, etc.), Datascope and Excel, to predict, plan and manage daily activities.
- Pro-actively identifies and addresses problems through collaboration, professional communication, and commitment to mutual goals.
- Manages and determines employee staffing and resource requirements to efficiently meet production needs.
- Practices and coaches effective time management techniques.
- Accurately forecasts and plans for resource requirements, including personnel, tools, training, etc.
Quality System Requirements
- Collaborates with VP of Distribution and Production Manager, and other key players to identify and implement overall improvements to production.
- Employs the right tools at the right time for effective problem solving.
- Pro-actively resolves component and process concerns as they are encountered.
- Embraces and champions quality improvement opportunities.
Continuous Improvement
- Improves process and resources efficiencies.
- Reduces in-line process defects and assembly errors.
- Minimizes the impact of equipment downtime and improve equipment operating efficiency.
- Monitors equipment performance trends in order to predict and schedule necessary preventative maintenance activities.
- Constructively and appropriately identifies, understands and overcomes barriers.
- Uses a methodical and holistic approach to problem solving, while selecting and using the appropriate tools to aid the process.
People Management
- Coaches and trains employees to high levels of success and contributions.
- Provides frequent and clear performance feedback, follows sound practices for documenting performance, counseling employees and follow appropriate discipline practices.
- Understands and applies knowledge of cultural differences and communication styles.
- Conveys a positive, professional and engaging demeanor that inspires teamwork and commitment.
Employee Safety
- Maintains a safe working environment, meet all company guidelines and governmental regulations.
- Regularly conducts workplace scans to identify and correct potential safety hazards.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- AA degree in Operations, Logistics or related field; or equivalent education and/or certifications such as PMP, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing.
- 3-5 years' experience as a senior lead or supervisor overseeing multiple production team and ability to use leadership skills to gain credibility and affect positive results.
- Two years’ experience managing projects from concept to post-implementation review.
- Demonstrates a high proficiency level designing, implementing and interpreting production metrics.
- Understands and applies Good Manufacturing Practices, Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
- High level of proficiency using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and complex enterprise systems, such as Syspro or similar MRP systems.
- High degree of self-awareness to modify leadership and communication styles to meet differing needs.
- Proven ability to overcome obstacles and difficult interactions to achieve a positive, win- win outcome.
- Actively pursues continued education and professional development.
- Able to work overtime and occasional weekends as needed.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Experience supervising production or assembly teams in a moderate- to high-volume facility.
- Experience using Warehouse Management System, ERP
- Six Sigma certification, PMP or related disciplines
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
All work is in an environmentally controlled production environment.
- Will frequently lift and carry up to 40 pounds and will occasionally lift and /or move up to 40lbs
- Will stand for long periods of time while reaching with hands and arms
- Will frequently lift, twist, reach and bend, with repetitive us of hands
- The noise level is medium
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
