The Desktop Security Support Specialist is responsible for maintaining and implementing security measures on desktop systems, including patch management, antimalware monitoring, and vulnerability assessments. This role requires technical proficiency in IT functions, strong analytical skills, and excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. Additionally, the specialist provides user support, ensures compliance with policies, and participates in after-hours support and business continuity planning.
What are the key responsibilities?
- Patch Management: Maintain knowledge of available patches, recommend appropriate ones, test patches before deployment, and document procedures.
- Antimalware and Security Monitoring: Monitor and maintain antimalware systems, respond to security alerts, and assess vulnerabilities.
- Compliance and Policy Adherence: Ensure compliance with operating policies and procedures, and participate in establishing and achieving unit goals.
- User Support and Training: Assist users with hardware and software needs, provide network access support, and respond to user inquiries.
- Business Continuity and After-Hours Support: Help develop and maintain a Technology Services Business Continuity Plan, and participate in after-hours support and monitoring functions.
What are the Required Qualifications?
- Educational Background: An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in MIS or a related field is typically required.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of system administration, computer skills, and knowledge of IT functions, including MIS, PC support, and network communications.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Proficient in reading, writing, grammar, interpersonal relations, and communication.
- Analytical and Diagnostic Skills: Excellent analytical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills with strong time management and organizational abilities.
- Physical and Practical Requirements: Ability to stand, stoop, bend, lift items up to 50 lbs., possess visual and auditory skills, and hold a valid driver's license.
- Preferred qualifications include CompTIA certifications (A , Network , Security ) and two or more years of experience in desktop support or a similar role.
