JOB PURPOSE: To effectively perform front and back office medical assistant roles and responsibilities. Ensure the clinical flow is properly managed and maintained to ensure patients receive dignified, quality healthcare. Seeking a medical assistant with a friendly disposition, ability to smile, and must have excellent customer service skills. This medical assistant will primarily be responsible for front office duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-FRONT OFFICE
· Greets patients
· Proficient working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
· Verify patient demographics and update any changes reported by patient in ECW
· Answer telephone calls promptly and courteously
· Check voicemail frequently throughout the day and return calls promptly
· Handle scheduling inquiries
· Assist patients with scheduling for health education or chronic care services
· Provide information and assistance to patients when requested
· Comply with industry standards for obtaining and releasing medical records
· Coordinate patient referrals
· Keep clinic waiting area clean, organized, and safe
· Responsible for opening the clinic, turning on administrative equipment
· Responsible tor maintaining administrative office supplies and updating inventory
· Ensure infection control by wearing a mask when exposure is known
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-BACK OFFICE
· Prepare exam room and work station for clinician; cleans and stocks rooms in between patients
· Obtain accurate chief complaint and document HPI
· Update patient’s medications, medical history, and social history during each visit
· Obtain accurate vital signs (HT, WT, BP, Pulse/O2 Sat, Pain level, BS, A1c)
· Ensure patient questionnaires are updated on a routine basis
· Prepare the patient and assist with exams and procedures as requested by clinician
· Administer injections and document in patient’s chart, Immunizations also documented in CAIR
· Assist with referring the patient out for diagnostic testing/referrals
· Perform blood draw and knowledge of processing specimens
· Perform in-office diagnostic and laboratory tests, including: EKG, spirometry, audiometry, vision screening, UAs, glucose testing, urine HCG, Hemacue hemoglobin, Breath and alcohol testing (BAT)
· Reports any safety hazards to clinic manager
· Prepare patient’s prescriptions through AS-Meds
· Answer calls from the pharmacy and appropriately route refill requests
· Perform Pas for prescription coverage
· Ensure patient flow is maintained
· Assist with managing walk-ins/same day appointments
· Follow industry standards for Universal Precautions when working with blood or bodily fluids
· Responsible for maintaining clinical supplies inventory
· Responsible for ensuring expired medications, samples, and supplies are disposed or appropriately
· Responsible for completing daily control logs under the supervision of the clinic manager

Education:
· Completion of a formal and accredited Medical Assistant program
· Current CPR certification required
Experience:
· 3-5 years of medical assistant experience preferred
· Previous experience working in an outpatient clinic or doctor’s office preferred
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, non-exempt, 40 hours per week. Days and hours vary depending on clinic coverage needs (Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.). Schedules will be determined by the clinic manager and may be subject to changes. This position may require Saturday coverage. This position is non-exempt and all overtime will be paid according to hours worked. Unless on a special schedule, any hours worked over 8 hr/day or 40 hr/week will be considered overtime pay.
