Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated AV Lead Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the commercial audio-visual industry and will be responsible for supervising audio-visual installations primarily in schools throughout Michigan. This position requires technical expertise, project management skills, and excellent communication abilities. We would prefer someone that lives within 30 minutes of our shop.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise audio-visual installations in schools and commercial environments.
- Interpret and work from blueprints to execute installations accurately.
- Install, tune, and program head-end equipment such as amplifiers, DSPs, and controllers.
- Work with manufacturers such as Crown, QSC, Soundcraft, Atlona, and Q-Sys.
- Install large loudspeakers in auditoriums, gymnasiums, and stadiums.
- Execute classroom AV, educational technology, and intercom/emergency notification system projects.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with clients, maintaining regular communication and ensuring satisfaction.
- Use Bluebeam software for project documentation (training available if needed).
- Utilize Ease acoustic design software for audio design (training available if needed).
- Manage projects, including scheduling, labor, and material budgets, using tools like Microsoft Planner, Project, and Procore.
- Train and supervise technicians to ensure high-quality work and adherence to timelines.
- Operate aerial platform lifts and obtain lift certification (company-sponsored if necessary).
- Review project submittals and drawings to assure accuracy and a fail-proof plan.
- Perform pre-installation site surveys and identify all necessary parts, procuring them as needed.
- Conduct installation work, service calls, and quality control to verify all systems are tested and commissioned to client satisfaction.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, ensuring compliance with NEC codes and industry standards.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the commercial audio-visual industry.
- Proficiency with head-end equipment and manufacturers such as Crown, QSC, Soundcraft, Atlona, and Q-Sys.
- Ability to install and tune large loudspeakers in complex environments.
- Strong project management experience.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Planner, Project, and Procore.
- CTS and/or BICSI certifications are highly desirable.
- Ability to travel overnight (rarely more than 2-3 nights per month).
- Flexibility to work second shifts occasionally during busy periods.
- Willingness to invest in personal growth and obtain industry certifications (company-sponsored).
- Lift certification or willingness to obtain one.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Team-oriented mindset with a commitment to high-quality work.
- Knowledgeable in mechanically fastening skills, including hanging projectors, cameras, projection screens, displays, and related AV equipment.
- Experience with wire installation, terminations, soldering, and general AV installation skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Bluebeam software.
- Familiarity with Ease acoustic design software.
- Experience in corporate boardroom AV projects.
Work Schedule:
- Typical hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, with occasional second-shift work during busy periods.
