Job Summary
The Paver Operator / Supervisor is responsible for overseeing paving operations, ensuring quality work, safety compliance, and efficient crew management. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and attention to detail to maintain high-quality paving standards and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all company safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct weekly Toolbox Talks and submit documentation to the Safety Department.
- Report all accidents/incidents immediately to the Operations Manager and Safety Department.
- Be on-site at least 30 minutes prior to start time to ensure readiness.
- Review project plans and specifications, keeping a copy on hand at all times.
- Confirm project details with the Operations Manager.
- Ensure all necessary equipment is on-site, functioning properly, and positioned for a prompt start.
- Supervise and coordinate activities of all team members under your direction.
- Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with the crew, Operations Manager, and Owner.
- Monitor paving operations for proper depth, yield, cross slope, and density, ensuring adherence to specifications.
- Ensure the crew and trucks operate efficiently throughout the shift.
- Calculate required asphalt tonnage and mix type.
- Determine the number of trucks needed for each paving operation and adjust as necessary.
- Complete daily trucking reports and communicate updates to the Operations Manager.
- Obtain approval from the Operations Manager/Owner for all Change Orders or Extra Work before execution.
- Accurately document for each job: crew members' time, equipment usage, materials, job-related notes, and associated costs.
- Ensure assigned equipment is properly maintained and kept clean.
- Report necessary equipment repairs to the Shop Mechanic promptly.
- Park all equipment safely, ensuring clear zone compliance and hazard-free conditions.
- Ensure all operators complete and submit Daily Equipment Condition Reports.
- Confirm all equipment is fueled and filled with water at the end of each shift.
- Utilize company computer programs and apps, including online safety management tools and employee timekeeping software, to track and report job details.
- Work with Subcontractors' on job sites and ensure they follow safety protocols.
- Address team member performance issues with the Operations Manager—all terminations are handled by Senior Management only.
- Inspect the project daily before leaving to confirm work quality and site cleanup.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or Senior Management.
- Strong understanding of paving operations, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret project plans and specifications.
- Physical ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and perform tasks requiring bending, pushing, pulling, stooping, and twisting.
- Proficiency in computer programs and apps used for safety management and employee time tracking.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in outdoor construction environments with varying weather conditions.
Salary : $70,000 - $80,000
