Our client is a $100M Social Services organization in the Queens / Nassau Country area seeking a Senior Accountant to join the General Ledger team. This position is newly created and will have massive potential for growth both laterally, for new skills, and vertically into management. The organization is 5 days on site and not conveniently located near public transportation, so those who commute via car from Queens or Long Island are most ideal.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
- Prepare accurate financial statements and internal reports for management, the Board of Directors, and external stakeholders.
- Support the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial planning activities.
- Coordinate and provide support for the annual audit, including preparation of schedules and collaboration with external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and best practices in non-profit accounting (e.g., IRS, GAAP, FASB).
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll journal entries, and banking activities as needed.
- Implement and refine internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets.
- Support the preparation and filing of IRS Form 990 and other compliance filings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field; MS, MBA, or CPA a plus
- 5 years of Non-Profit accounting experience required
- Public Audit experience a huge plus
- Strong Excel Skills (Pivot Tables and V-Lookups) and experience with Financial Edge or SAGE ideal
- Strong communication skills and ability to multitask

Salary : $80,000 - $85,000
