- Develop and implement strategic plans to advance the Commission’s mission.
- Provide visionary leadership to staff, stakeholders, and the community, promoting inclusivity and transparency.
- Collaborate with public advocates, community leaders, and experts to gather testimony and insights on reparation remedies.
- Represent the Commission at public forums, media engagements, and legislative meetings to effectively communicate the Commission’s goals.
- Conduct research and analysis on historical injustices and reparative justice, integrating national and international best practices.
- Develop actionable policy recommendations and advocacy strategies for the Commission’s report to the Governor.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, adjusting strategies to align with new opportunities and challenges.
- Build relationships with government agencies, advocacy groups, and community organizations to support the Commission’s objectives.
- Engage with affected communities to understand their perspectives on reparation remedies.
- Facilitate community meetings, listening sessions, and public forums to ensure diverse voices are included in the Commission’s work.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders and stakeholders to promote transparency and inclusivity.
- Manage day-to-day operations, including staff management, budgeting, and reporting, under the direction of the Chair of the Commission.
- Assist in hiring key administrative, legal, and communications staff to support the Commission’s objectives.
- Oversee the scheduling and logistics of public meetings, hearings, and activities, ensuring broad community representation across New York State.
- Ensure legal and regulatory compliance and prepare progress reports and recommendations for the Commission.
- Provide expert guidance and strategic advice on the Commission’s initiatives, public engagement strategies, and best practices for achieving its mission.
- Minimum of five years of leadership experience with a focus on social justice, policy development, and reparative justice.
- At least three years of experience in a senior executive role.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, community engagement, data collection, and research.
- Strong ability to communicate and collaborate with diverse communities, government agencies, and advocacy groups.
- Experience in managing large-scale initiatives, including staff oversight, budgeting, and public engagement efforts.
