Job Title: Entry Level Chemist

Job Description

Assist lead scientists in the completion of testing, formulation development, data collection, and data interpretation. Plan and safely conduct experiments to obtain the required information or data. Responsible for planning activities, reporting data, and providing written documentation of experiment activity and results, including data analysis. The position is at the Research Center of an industry leader in the manufacture of construction materials.

Responsibilities

• Support research of ceiling tile in the R&D lab.
• Conduct lab work such as coatings tests, color testing, hardness testing, mix formulations, and test properties.
• Measure temperature change as it sets, hardness, breaking strength, and nail/pull resistance.
• Prepare and test batches, measure properties, cut samples into pieces, or make formulations and pour into molds for testing.
• Plan activities, report data, and document experiment results.
• Perform data analysis and interpretation.

Essential Skills

• BS degree in a scientific field including engineering, chemistry, physics, or related.
• Familiarity with basics of project management.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications (e.g., MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Experience with power tools including drill and table saw.
• Experience with construction trades is a plus.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Knowledge of titration, chemical, and wet chemistry.
• Laboratory experience in chemistry and material science.
• Experience with strength testing.

Work Environment

The position is based in the R&D lab for the ceiling tile lab. The work hours are Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, with some flexibility to start earlier or later (7-9 am start time range). The lab includes 8 people, including 2 other technicians. The research center has over 80 employees and multiple labs, including a big analytical lab with high-tech instrumentation like SEM. The position is guaranteed for about 6 months with a strong chance of becoming permanent.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
