Job Title: Chromatography Applications Scientist
Job Description
The Chromatography Applications Scientist will provide application support for new and existing chromatography products. This role involves working with sales and marketing staff to create sales tools and supporting materials to drive sales growth. The scientist will also provide technical support to customers and contribute to market development and strategic direction.
Responsibilities
- Create applications and technical content to support marketing activities and sales growth.
- Develop new applications using company products to demonstrate key product benefits.
- Make comparisons to competitive products and provide proof statements for marketing materials.
- Create technical content for marketing initiatives such as blogs, journal articles, white papers, posters, presentations, and seminars.
- Contribute ideas, content, and editorial feedback on marketing initiatives and tools.
- Act as a key external technical thought leader to promote chromatography products and influence prospective customers.
- Provide pre- and post-sale technical support to customers.
- Execute free chiral screening of customer-submitted samples to identify the best column for their separation.
- Aid in method development, troubleshooting issues, and making product recommendations for customers.
- Provide input on strategic direction and business goals.
- Recommend relevant industry conferences, tradeshows, and events to promote products.
- Identify new market opportunities that align with core competencies.
- Identify and share new products and product line extensions that fit business objectives.
- Suggest investments in new equipment and technologies to meet customer expectations.
- Gather voice of customer feedback to inform future product offerings and improvements.
- Collaborate with development and operations scientists to guide the development of new products.
- Perform and assume other related duties as assigned.
- Complete routine maintenance on lab instrumentation as needed.
Essential Skills
- Extensive knowledge of chromatography techniques such as chiral and achiral analytical and preparative HPLC.
- Working knowledge of LC-MS is a plus.
- Familiarity with chromatography data collection software associated with HPLC systems and the ability to export data to usable files such as Excel and PowerPoint.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs to create technical presentations and papers.
- Strong communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Knowledge of safety requirements in an analytical laboratory setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a similar analytical science is required.
- A master’s degree or PhD in analytical chemistry is preferred.
- 5 years or more working in an analytical laboratory setting such as industrial, pharmaceutical, or university.
Work Environment
Typical laboratory and office environment with exposure to chemicals and moderate noise levels. The role is based at the Morton Grove, IL site, and requires 5 days a week onsite. Travel is 5 to 10 percent of the year for trade shows and applications conferences, with possible travel to potential or current customers to give presentations on chromatography capabilities and showcase products/services. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.67 - $62.50/hr.
