Job Description
We are looking for a staff engineer to join our team in the Coconut Creek or West Palm Beach offices. You will be trained and mentored in both field and office settings, providing engineering and design support within our existing solid waste practice. This role focuses on landfill, landfill gas, recycling, and composting related to permitting and design, air quality and compliance support, construction, operation, and monitoring for private and municipal clients.
Responsibilities
- Landfill and landfill gas system permitting and design, including construction plans, specifications, and construction documents.
- Apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering and scientific principles and practices in solid waste assignment areas and related fields.
- Manage projects and personnel to meet client expectations.
- Make decisions independently on engineering or scientific problems and methods, plan and coordinate work, and represent the company at meetings and conferences.
- Conduct fieldwork in varied terrain and weather, including surveys/data gathering, construction quality assurance, inspections, sample collection, drilling oversight, etc.
- Perform office-based tasks such as CAD drafting, mathematical calculations, report writing, creating site plans and facility diagrams, permit applications, etc.
- Engage in business development including proposal preparation, meeting with clients, and attending industry-related conferences/trade shows.
- Receive technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans or projects.
- Complete quality control reviews on all work product (reports, design plans, design calculations, data, etc.) prior to submission.
- Prepare calculations for reports and in support of design documents as requested.
- Review laboratory data and prepare compliance monitoring reports.
- Travel (day trips or overnight, 20% of travel expected).
- Ensure adherence to client and company policies in all activities including health and safety, security, and ethics.
Essential Skills
- Experience with Civil 3D and grading.
- Experience with landfills or similar projects.
- Proficiency in design, civil engineering, drafting, land development, civil design, site development, AutoCAD Civil 3D, construction documents, volume calculations, well boring logs, site grading, cross-sections, plan view, profile view, plan and profile, stormwater, and drainage.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Environmental, or Geotechnical Engineering, or related major.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant civil or environmental experience.
- Competent in using MS Office and other computer software normally used in environmental consulting.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
- Valid Driver’s License with a driving record in good standing.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Consulting experience specific to the solid waste industry, including landfill gas management, air compliance, and landfill design and permitting, is preferred.
- AutoCAD experience is preferred.
Work Environment
You will work 5 days a week in the office, with the possibility to work from home 1 day a week once trained. You will be based in either our Coconut Creek or West Palm Beach office. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $29.81 - $34.62/hr.
