Job Title: Formulation Chemist III
Job Description
The Formulation Chemist III will report to the R&D Manager and work closely with the laboratory and other department staff. This position is responsible for development and research related to fluorine-free firefighting foams for Class A combustible materials and for Class B flammable and combustible liquids. The individual in this position will create and develop novel formulations for the fire protection industry. The individual will collaborate with other functions in R&D to explore, test proof of concept, produce novel products, and advance new technologies in the industry. The individual will also provide subject matter expertise and support necessary in technology transfer, product approvals, and process scale-up for new chemicals. This individual should be skilled in the conception and development of formulations of surfactant-based products.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and development with a primary emphasis on the improvement of current products.
- Design and conduct research that addresses customer needs and supports business objectives.
- Document and report all testing procedures, results, and observations in a laboratory notebook.
- Perform laboratory tests according to written procedures.
- Interface with manufacturing for new product development, including product trials and scale-up.
- Provide technical support for customer-focused projects and assist in resolving product quality issues.
- Work closely and communicate technical information effectively with other departments and teams within the organization.
- Provide documentation through written reports.
- Ensure compliance with Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) regulations.
Essential Skills
- Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (Advanced Degree preferred).
- 5 years of formulation experience.
- 5 years of experience with surfactant-based formulations (e.g., firefighting foams, cleaning, agricultural, pharmaceutical, personal care, or related industries).
- Knowledge and experience in colloid suspension/sciences.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in the conception and development of formulations of surfactant-based products for fire protection or similar industries.
Work Environment
Laboratory and R&D setting, office. Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Note: The manager is flexible with start times and chemists can choose to start earlier than 7:30 a.m. if preferred.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00/hr.
