Part Time Lab Technician - Microbiology
Job Description
We are seeking an Lab Technician to perform microbial testing for raw materials, in-process, and finished products. The role involves maintaining laboratory supplies and inventories, ensuring equipment maintenance and calibration, and supporting the quality and R&D team. You will ensure compliance with cGMP, ISO 9001:2015, and regulatory/legal requirements while assisting with the inspection of incoming materials and internal processes. Effective communication with the Quality Control team is essential for handling non-conformance issues and reporting on the QMS performance.
Responsibilities
- Perform microbial testing for raw materials, in-process, and finished products.
- Maintain laboratory supplies and inventories.
- Ensure equipment maintenance and calibration as necessary.
- Complete and maintain all necessary documentation to ensure cGMP compliance.
- Support the quality and R&D team as needed.
- Ensure the Quality Management System conforms to customer, internal, ISO 9001:2015, and regulatory/legal requirements.
- Assist with the inspection of incoming materials to ensure they meet requirements.
- Monitor, measure, and review internal processes affecting product quality.
- Communicate with the Quality Control team to handle non-conformance issues.
- Report to management on QMS performance, including results of quality audits and corrective actions.
- Ensure accurate and timely inspection/calibration of monitoring and measuring devices.
- Stay updated on standards, regulations, laws, and issues related to product quality.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in laboratory methods and protocols.
- Experience with aseptic techniques.
- Knowledge of microbiology and plating.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Capability to work independently or within a team under supervision.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- General computer skills, including Microsoft Office products.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Biology, or Biochemistry (completed or near-completion).
- GLP experience is a plus.
- Genetic microbiological analysis experience is a plus.
- General laboratory skills, including the use of balance, pH meter, autoclave, and knowledge of typical laboratory procedures.
- Knowledge of cGMP and ISO 9001 is a plus.
Work Environment
The lab team consists of 2 other people, with 1 person in production assisting with QA/QC. Working hours are flexible within a 20-40 hour range during weekdays (Monday to Friday), with no weekend shifts. Successful performance in this role could lead to full-time employment.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
