Job Description
Responsible for directing the work of Medical Technicians, Medical Scientists and other assigned staff to assure proper functioning of the Clinical Laboratory. Establishes and maintains a system where work and test results are checked for accuracy and timeliness. Maintains supplies, monitors cost, monitors quality. Performs a variety of tests and procedures. Establishes and maintains a system for routine and preventive maintenance on equipment and troubleshoots problems. Works under general direction of the Director of Laboratory Operations.
Must be able to complete all competencies for microbiology. Will have responsibilities for microbiology at UH Lakewood General Laboratory in addition to UH Truman Medical Center General Laboratory.

Qualifies as a General Supervisor under CLIA-88 by any of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology science with at least one year experience with high complexity testing, or
- Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical technology program with at least two years experience with high complexity testing, or
- Previously qualified or could have qualified as a general supervisor prior to 2/29/92 under 42 CFR 493.1427 (3/14/90)
- Three years’ experience as a Medical Scientist. Specialized training in one or more areas of the clinical lab preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required interacting with other hospital personnel
- Strong organizational skills required organizing and coordinating the variety of staff and the duties they perform
- Writing skills and computer aptitude required documenting test results and prepare reports of daily work completed
- Must be able to read and speak the English language
- Must have the ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to stand for long periods
- Must be available to rotate shifts and work weekends and holidays
