Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to facilitate mechanical building system startups and commissioning activities. This role requires a deep understanding of safety procedures and extensive knowledge of prevailing building codes and professional industry standards. The ideal candidate will work closely with building construction contractors and equipment vendors to coordinate equipment testing, delivery, installation, and commissioning. Additionally, the role involves conducting inspections, supporting construction administration activities, and preparing status reports.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate mechanical building system startups and commissioning activities.
- Review product and equipment submittals, shop drawings, engineering design drawings, and specifications.
- Provide expert assistance in contractor-generated RFIs.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures, safe work practices, and OSHA requirements for mechanical installations.
- Coordinate equipment factory testing, delivery, installation, commissioning, and handover to end users.
- Coordinate weekend and plant shutdown work with contractors, plant facilities groups, and manufacturing shops.
- Conduct work progress inspections on a continuous basis.
- Support construction administration activities related to schedule coordination, quality confirmations, weekly coordination meetings, and planned utility outages.
- Conduct inspections and observations of mechanical building systems for compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes.
- Oversee work of mechanical contractors for adherence to project delivery methods, schedule milestone targets, and coordination with other groups.
- Prepare field engineering status reports of work progress and schedule to Project Managers.
- Provide input and feedback to improve project technical specifications and standards.
- Effectively communicate technical matters in written and verbal formats.
- Manage time and prioritize project commitments based on established deadlines and project milestones.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 2 years in construction management.
- 5 years in the mechanical design field.
- Experience in design criteria development for mechanical systems.
- Automotive experience with engine, transmission, or vehicle facilities or similar industrial manufacturer.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project.
- Good organizational, communication, and schedule management skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with Bluebeam and AutoCAD.
Work Environment
The role involves working closely with building construction contractors and equipment vendors. The candidate will coordinate and conduct inspections, support construction administration activities, and oversee mechanical contractors. The work schedule may include coordination of weekend and plant shutdown work. Proficiency in relevant software such as Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD is required.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $55.00/hr.
