Job Description
Under the general direction of the Pathologist, the Pathology Assistant performs gross description and dissection of complex and simple human surgical specimens, dictates gross findings on selected specimens using appropriate terminology, and submits tissue sections for microscopic review by the Pathologist. The Pathology Assistant obtains the patient’s clinical history and maintains and coordinates specimens and records for specialized procedures using appropriate protocols. Additionally, the Pathology Assistant may assist in instrument acquisition and special projects as required by the Anatomic Pathology Supervisor, Pathologists, Medical Director, and/or Laboratory Director. Laboratory services must be provided in a timely and accurate manner to aid clinicians in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Responsibilities
- Perform gross description and dissection of complex and simple human surgical specimens.
- Dictate gross findings on selected specimens using appropriate terminology.
- Submit tissue sections for microscopic review by the Pathologist.
- Obtain patient’s clinical history and maintain/coordinate specimens and records for specialized procedures.
- Assist in instrument acquisition and special projects as required by the Anatomic Pathology Supervisor, Pathologists, Medical Director, and/or Laboratory Director.
- Ensure laboratory services are provided in a timely and accurate manner to aid in diagnosis and treatment.
Essential Skills
- Master’s Degree required.
- Minimum of one year of experience preferred.
- Certification as a Pathologist’s Assistant (ASCP) or certification-eligible, which must be attained within 6 months of hire.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of laboratory operation.
- Strong computer, reasoning, and language skills preferred.

- Membership in the American Association of Pathologist’s Assistants preferred.
- Experience with grossing, hematology, oncology, anatomical pathology, clinical laboratory generalist, medical terminology, pathology lab, and lab analysis.

Work Environment
The lab environment is very clean and buzzing with activity. It features state-of-the-art equipment and software to ensure work efficiency and accuracy. The facility is rapidly expanding and has a very tight-knit team with a large support system. The leadership is very strong, kind, and organized. The work hours are from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $47.00/hr.
