Protection and Control Design Engineer

Job Overview

• You will work on designing and ensuring the safety and reliability of the company's electric grid, including substations and power lines. You'll collaborate with various teams to solve technical issues and troubleshoot problems.

Responsibilities

• Design Systems: Create systems that protect and control the electrical network, using standards and past experiences.
• Specify Equipment: Choose the right equipment for substations to ensure they work safely and reliably.
• Analyze Data: Collect and study data about the electrical system to meet new requirements and report to regulatory agencies.
• Develop Diagrams: Create diagrams that show how the protection systems should be set up.
• Plan Projects: Outline project details and costs to help with long-term planning and budgeting.
• Support Teams: Help operations and construction teams with troubleshooting and technical issues.
• Review Drawings: Check technical drawings to make sure installations meet all requirements.
• Improve Systems: Suggest and create alternative designs to improve system performance.
• Guide Technicians: Oversee the work of designers and technicians to ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations.
• Site Visits: Visit project sites to gather information, troubleshoot, and ensure proper setup.

Qualifications

• ABET accredited Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
• Knowledge of engineering principles, advanced math, and electric power systems.
• Ability to read and create technical diagrams.
• Experience with fault analysis software and communication relay schemes is preferred.
• Other Requirements: Must be dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work well with others. Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases is needed. A valid driver's license is required.

Work Environment

• Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm, with some flexibility.
• Occasional travel between offices in Wichita and Topeka, KS.
• Some fieldwork in substations and construction sites.
• May require extra hours depending on workload and project deadlines.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $64000.00 - $181000.00
