Lead Quality Control Lab Technician
Job Description
This position oversees lab analysis and microbiological analysis to ensure a quality product is consistently produced at all times. The role operates on a day shift from 5:45am-6:00pm on a rotating schedule (typically 2 days on, 2 days off, then a 3-day rotating weekend).
Responsibilities
- Perform microbiological analysis of products, water, and environment.
- Conduct taste tests to assure quality.
- Accurately collect samples for testing, including energy drinks, sweetener samples, raw water, treated water, sanitation rinse water, and post sanitation swabbing without compromising the validity of test samples.
- Identify and complete Gluten Free and Allergen testing.
- Ensure batching sheets are filled out properly and within specifications before signing off.
- Perform product testing pertaining to energy drinks, including but not limited to: CO2, air, volumes, seam check, pH, brix, flavor, and any others as required.
- Conduct Titratable Acidity analysis of products.
- Perform HPLC analysis of products for caffeine and preservative levels.
- Ensure accuracy of all measuring devices, including their calibration.
- Accurately record and document results from product analysis.
- Send COAs and micro reports to customers.
- Maintain Yield Tracking Analysis.
- Update titration folders and micro folders for new products and formulas.
- Monitor and control reference room samples and product retains.
- Ensure product analysis and micro plating is performed accurately and as required.
- Oversee the training of new Lab Technicians.
- Perform HPLC preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and training.
- Create yearly testing folders.
- Adhere to and comply with Good Manufacturing Practices as outlined in Employee Handbook.
- Adhere to and comply with quality production and Food Safety standards.
- Create and update Lab SOPs.
- Ensure all weekly and daily lab duties are completed accurately and as required.
- Create Production Sheets when needed.
- Work with other team members to complete required QC workload and ensure quality throughout the production process.
- Maintain high accuracy and attention to detail.
- Utilize good reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiently multitask and utilize time efficiently while keeping composure.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in Wet Chemistry and Aseptic Technique.
- Experience in Quality Control, line checks, and line inspection.
- Ability to conduct QC Checks and Manufacturing Line Audits.
- Knowledge of Laboratory, Biology, and Chemistry.
- Experience in documentation and maintaining accurate records.
- Data and documentation skills verified by references.
- Previous lead or oversight experience.
- Knowledge of analytical testing equipment and microbial testing.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- AA or BA/BS in a Scientific Discipline.
- 2 years of experience in Food Quality.
Work Environment
Our Client is a contract mixing and bottling manufacturer with a full brewery where they contract brew. The company has two manufacturing sites, each with analytical and micro labs to verify product quality. This position involves a mix of 50% floor work and 50% lab work.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.50/hr.
