Description
As a Resident Engineer, you will ensure the preparation of accurate and complete work products by monitoring schedules, changing orders and weekly reports; identifying and implementing ideas that save the client time and money or that effectively solve potential problems/opportunities, reviewing interim work products/submittals, providing needed feedback, accuracy, completeness, value, and coordination of sub-consultants
Responsibilities:
- Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions. Interprets technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, handling abstract and concrete variables.
- Manages multiple tasks or assignments simultaneously.
- Reads, analyzes, and interprets complex technical documents.
- Responds effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
- Supervises others and makes decisions on work in progress.
- Works independently in the construction field office.
- Assists the Construction Manager with project performance reviews and personal development plans.
- Coordinates with local utilities and agencies, prepares project closeout documents, and handles contractor claims.
- Familiar with job site conditions, common problems, and rectification procedures.
- Mentors and trains construction inspection staff.
- Knowledgeable in construction inspection principles, testing soils, survey methods, concrete, and asphalt construction, and relevant regulations.
- Maintains orderly project files and logs.
- Makes recommendations for change orders, performs constructability reviews, and monitors budgets and invoices.
- Possesses intermediate computer skills, including email, databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics.
- Prepares correspondence, responds to RFIs, and clarifies plans or specifications.
- Recommends additional staff and maintains relationships with field staff.
- Manages multiple construction projects requiring various disciplines.
- Reviews and approves contractor pay requests, presides over meetings, and prepares minutes.
- Reviews design and bidding documents, evaluates bids, and supervises construction progress.
- Regularly reviews project plans, specifications, and field activities.
- Reviews submittals and prepares transmittal letters.
- Detects discrepancies in plans, materials, and methods, and implements corrective actions.
- Plans and schedules inspection activities.
- Supervises field staff and manages contractors to ensure quality construction.
- Takes and maintains dated photographs of construction progress and communicates with the owner.
- Uses initiative and independent judgment, meets deadlines, and projects consequences of decisions and recommendations.
Skills
PE License, bridge construction, highway construction, erosion control, sediment control
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Ideally 15 years of experience as a Resident Engineer.
- Minimum 5 years of highway and bridge construction experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- PE License in Michigan is required.
- Erosion and Sediment Control Training Course preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past 3 years.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
