Job Title: Special Inspector

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Special Inspector to conduct field operations, including sampling, testing, special inspections, and observations using ASTM, DOT, ACI, AWS, and IBC methods and standards. The role requires assisting engineering staff with project execution and management through a solid understanding of engineering practices and construction methodologies as indicated by codes and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field operations, including sampling, testing, special inspections, and observations.
• Assist engineering staff with project execution and management.
• Read and understand construction plans and specifications.
• Utilize computers and electronic equipment to document field data and produce reports and timesheets.
• Drive a company truck for transportation to job sites.
• Perform physical activities such as walking through uneven terrain, standing for long periods, and lifting up to 75 lbs.
• Travel overnight up to 10% of the time.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in reading and understanding construction plans and specifications.
• Ability to utilize computers and electronic equipment for documentation.
• Ability to drive a company truck.
• Physical stamina to walk through uneven terrain, stand for long periods, and lift up to 75 lbs.
• Willingness to travel overnight up to 10%.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• ICC Special Inspector certifications (Steel, Concrete, Earthwork, etc.), AWS CWI certification or professional licensure.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience.
• Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Experience in civil engineering or construction.
• Proficiency in report writing, organization, and utilization of technology.

Work Environment

The work environment includes outdoor job sites such as military bases, the Alabama State House, and the Mobile Bridge project. The role involves working in various weather conditions and requires appropriate attire for outdoor work. Potential for relocation is available.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
