Substation Principal Engineer/Lead

Key Responsibilities:

• Project Management: Oversee substation projects from start to finish, including planning, construction, and commissioning.    
• Early Stage Support: Work with project managers to define engineering needs and scope during the initial phase.      
• Technical Oversight: Ensure external engineers follow all necessary standards and regulations.      
• Consulting Resources: Hire and manage engineering consultants.
• Coordination: Work with various stakeholders to secure sites, permits, and necessary data for substation projects.     
• Sourcing Services: Find and contract services like geotechnical, survey, and construction.    
• Stakeholder Communication: Represent the project in meetings, providing updates and managing risks.  
• Interconnection Support: Assist with documentation and ensure compliance with transmission requirements.
• Material Management: Handle orders for major materials to avoid delays and budget issues.
• Estimating Support: Help update cost estimates based on project feedback.
• Collaboration: Work with different engineering disciplines to prioritize and plan projects.
• Safety and Efficiency: Ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.
• Commissioning Support: Assist with project commissioning to meet company goals.     
• Legal Support: Help with regulatory filings and legal matters.      
• Design Collaboration: Work with component manufacturers to improve designs.

Qualifications:  

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering preferred.    
• Experience: 5 years in substation design and engineering, especially high voltage projects.       
• Skills: Project engineering/management experience, PMP or P.E. certification is a plus.
• Travel: Some travel within North America required.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00
