Job Summary
The stationary engineer will be responsible for the operation of the facility and its systems including heat, ventilation and air conditioning, process air, vacuum and trim collection, electrical distribution, volatile organic compounds and abatement systems, etc. They will have experience in operating, maintaining, and repairing large commercial chillers, boilers, air handling units, and associated equipment.
Pay Rate: $31.96 per hour. This is a union position
Shift: Day Shift.
Essential Job Functions:
- Analyze, Plan, and Perform Preventive Maintenance of HVAC System throughout all buildings
- Install, maintain and repair heating, ventilation, and cooling units.
- Diagnose and repair of electronic, mechanical and electrical components of these systems.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant plumbing, electrical, safety and building codes.
- Ensure the proper working order of the major mechanical and electrical components of all Facilities.
- Perform constant reviews on operating and servicing functions in order to provide continuous service and to prevent breakdowns.
- Recommend to the Project Manager any need for major repairs to mechanical systems. Inspects repair jobs when work is completed.
- Make periodic inspections of all engineering systems and equipment and monitoring equipment operations, maintain equipment operating logs and operational reports as required
- Maintain proper stock, parts, tools and safety equipment.
- Assemble and connect pipes and ducts used in piping refrigerants, steam, hot water, and warm or conditioned air.
- Overhaul and repair pumps, compressors, controls, piping ducts, and other equipment used in heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems.
- Calibrate thermostats.
- Repair and maintain a variety of refrigeration unit systems.
- Inspect and test systems to verify system compliance with plans and specifications or to detect and locate malfunctions
- Troubleshoot, repair and make modifications to HVAC System
- Adhere to all city, state, and federal regulatory statues
- Maintain maintenance records as required by City, State, and Federal regulations
- Order and maintain parts needed to repair and maintain HVAC Equipment
- Properly maintain and safeguard assets
- Maintain safe chemical storage as deemed
- Attends all necessary training
- Other Duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Skills, Experience, and Education:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Stationary Engineer or Operating Engineer License issued from a state or union
- Minimum two years of experience as a building engineer in a commercial or industrial setting.
- Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel and e-mail applications
- Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assignments
- Ability to work in a team environment

- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret miscellaneous drawings and schematics.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Able to read electrical schematics and mechanical blueprints
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Understands and has mastered all types of HVAC systems and how each component within the system operates in conjunction with the other components and how that impacts the overall operations of the system as a whole. These systems include but are not limited to air cooled, water cooled, hot water systems, chilled water systems, VAV systems, steam heating systems and building automation control systems

Equipment Used and Physical Requirements:
The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- Equipment used includes but is not limited to Hand tools, power tools, and equipment related to the maintenance, operation, and repair of commercial heating and cooling systems
- While performing the duties of this, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or stoop or long periods of time.
- Must be capable of lifting up to 75 lbs.
- Must be able to use arms, hands, and fingers to reach, handle, and feel.
- Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
- Must have suitable endurance to do physical labor for long periods of time.
- Once certified, must be willing to work in confined spaces.
- Ability to safely climb and work from ladders.
