Key Responsibilities
- Supervise a group of youth participants in the SummerWorks program to guide and assist them through their work experience as it pertains to payroll, portfolio development, and career and life skills.
- Conduct youth orientations.
- Oversee and assist with youth paperwork and individual service plans.
- Responsible for youth timecard collection and payroll distribution.
- Meet with youth participants on a regular basis to address workshop assignments.
- Assist youth in the development of their Individual Service Strategy.
- Provide feedback on academic skills (writing, reading, mathematics).
- Develop techniques for motivating youth participants to complete assignments.
- Maintain a weekly log and case notes to document youth progress.
- Arrange weekly thematic workshops for youth participants.
- Meet with worksite supervisor on a regular basis to coordinate educational, career, and life skills goals.
- Be responsive to and proactive with youth participants and worksites.
- Attend weekly meeting with Youth Services regarding documentation and statistics of enrollee progress.
- Responsible for all requests made by the Community Coordination Department regarding weekly reports, final report, and miscellaneous youth concerns.
- Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent and up to twelve months of experience and expertise with urban adult literacy, and youth education and employment programs required.
- Bachelor's degree in education or related field preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work with both Boston Public Schools and community organizations.
- Ability to be responsive to and proactive with youth participants and worksites.
- Knowledge of assessment techniques and issues, innovated teaching, career development and counseling mechanisms, etc.
- Flexibility, initiative, and ability to work in a team required.
- Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse economic and cultural backgrounds.
