Description
The Immigration Services Specialist is responsible for managing an active caseload of immigration clients, supporting them through the various and complex immigration processes and procedures. This position also develops and maintains working relationships with various immigration organizations within the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct intake process, screening, and assisting clients with the immigration process.
- Provide support to clients participating in the program by identifying support services needed and making appropriate referrals.
- Provide case management services through individual visits and follow-up to enable them to become more self-sufficient.
- Assist immigrants in applying for US citizenship, family petitions, adjustment of status, renewal of green cards, VAWA applications, TPS, U-Visas, passport applications, and fee waivers.
- Prepare client immigration packets for legal review.
- Work with an immigration consultant lawyer to have immigration paperwork approved prior to submittal to USCIS.
- Identify red flags for clients with might present barriers to naturalizations.
- Assist in coordinating the civics program and conduct orientation sessions for clients.
- Coordinate client outreach and community linkage activities, facilitating Immigration workshops.
- Communicate with other community-based organizations to better meet clients’ Immigration needs.
- Maintain relationships with other community-based organizations, representing the Director-Immigration Services at events and meetings as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned from time to time.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, and 1-3 years of experience in the human services field required. An associate’s Degree preferred.
- Experience working with immigrant populations and training in immigration laws.
- Demonstrated ability to work sensitively with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to meet deadlines, handle confidential paperwork, and be able to complete immigration related forms.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Bilingual-English/Spanish highly preferred.
