The “Second ACTS” thrift store is non-profit and supports the programs of ACTS that make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in crisis. The Floater Thrift Store and Donation Center Associate fills vacancies during regular staff absences on an as-needed basis.  This position processes donated clothes and other items for sale and assists customers both at the Donation Center and retail store.  At the store they answer customer questions, operate the cash register, and maintain the cleanliness and safety of the store to ensure customers have a satisfactory shopping experience.

Position Title: Floater Thrift Store and Donation Center Associate                          

Division/Department: Operations 

Reports to: Chief Operations Officer 

Pay:  $17.34/hour ($.50 additional per hour for bilingual capability in English and Spanish, French or Arabic and $.50 additional per hour foadditional degree of value to ACTS.) 

Hours per week: As-needed 

Schedule: Possible hours: Monday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. 

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt (OT eligible)

Essential Functions: 

Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions 

  1. Receives, sorts, prices and stocks donated goods and assists in maintaining seasonal merchandise stock.
  2. Operates the cash register accurately to include voiding and redeeming vouchers.
  3. Provides a courteous and professional service to customers and donors while answering in-person and telephone inquiries.
  4. Maintains cleanliness and tidiness of the facility, ensuring racks and shelves are stocked appropriately, safely and neatly.
  5. Maintains the safety and security of the facility and the grounds.
  6. Provides assistance and mentoring of volunteers as directed.
  7. Actively participates in supervision, attends department meetings, community meetings, training and other agency related activities.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  1. Excellent customer service skills.
  2. Good oral communication skills.
  3. Basic computer and math skills.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  •  Bilingual capability (English and Spanish, French or Arabic)

Education and Experience: 

  • Previous experience in retail and cash register operations preferred.

Physical Requirements:  

  • Prolonged periods of standing behind the cash register while maintaining the sales floor.
  • Frequent exposure to outdoor weather including sun, heat and cold.
  • Undertakes all physical requirements involved with the Thrift Store and Donation Center setting; including but not limited to lifting up to 40 lbs., bending, squatting, pushing and pulling and standing for long periods of time.
