What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance and Yard Support position at Action?
JOB SUMMARY: The primary responsibilities for this role are to provide general shop support, including shop clean-up and providing non-technical assistance to the mechanics.
This person will also provide operational support to the onsite Terminal in the form of yard maintenance, performing daily yard checks, repositioning of equipment on the yard, and assisting with load/freight transfers on our yard.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- General cleaning & maintenance of shop and yard to include but not limited to; cleaning shop floors, tool and equipment, parts storage areas, yard maintenance and debris clean up
- Helps keep the shop orderly by ensuring parts and tooling are stored in their proper areas.
- Empties trash receptacles.
- Performs product hose testing procedures.
- Supports mechanics in the form of cleaning/washing parts; job clean-up & other non-technical support.
- Performs hole watching duty for confined space entry.
- Performs some limited non-technical repairs on trucks/trailers using basic hand tools when needed.
- Assists drivers with the loading and unloading of pallet jacks and other loading and unloading equipment.
- Performs charging of In Transit Heat (ITH) lines on trailers when needed.
- Performs and records daily yard checks of the equipment on the yard.
- Re-positons equipment on the yard when tasked, to ensure it’s parked in the proper area.
- Transfers freight containers to and from their transportation chassis when needed.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have high school diploma or equivalent, education and experience
- Forklift certification required
- Valid driver’s license required
- Basic mechanical aptitude
- Must have excellent communication skills
- Previous shop/mechanic experience preferred
