What are the responsibilities and job description for the Acting Masterclass Instructor, Once on this Island position at ActUp Theater?
ActUp Theater is seeking an Acting Masterclass Instructor to help conduct a 1-day masterclass on various acting techniques. This role will be for the production of Once on this Island! This position provides an inclusive community for participants at any and all abilities to creatively challenge and express themselves through training and performance. Duties include fostering a classroom environment focused on learning proper acting techniques including (but not limited to) speech technique, character interpretation, and ability to absorb direction from a director.
This role will play a central role in management and supporting the work of ActUp Theater Arts Academy. At this fall's ActUp Theater Arts Academy (ATAA), we will work with participants to sharpen their skills through a series of masterclasses that will propel their talent, improve their academic achievement, and empower them to explore their talent! ATAA will provide instruction from teaching artists, interactive training, and team building experiences. This exciting position will be an asset to ActUp Theater!
The masterclass will take place on September 21st, 2024, from 9am-3:00pm.
Responsibilities
- Teach acting principles to get 30 participants excited about upcoming auditions to Once on this Island often in a group setting
- Successfully teach group of youth and/or adults in disenfranchised communities (Ages 13 )
- Ensure challenging curriculum for a 1.5 hour class with selected scene from Once on this Island
- Teach participants to be versatile emphasizing skills like enunciation, diction, and dialect development using speech drills, improvisation, explanation, and other voice exercises
- Explaining body language and expression, engaging students in character development and personality projection, and helping each student develop a personal style
- Teaching age-appropriate creative expression, acting skills, student self-directed improvisation, and interdisciplinary inquiry projects during and after school.
- Collaborate with an assistant (1) to manage both classrooms
- Experienced in developing and channeling group dynamics for positive learning outcomes
- Experienced in using differentiated and culturally responsive instruction and restorative justice classroom management approaches with and for BIPOC students
- Highly motivated and motivating
- Serving students, teachers and communities similar to our demographics
- Supporting an organizational vision, mission, core values and programs similar to ActUp Theater
- Attend all staff meetings required for planning
- Communicate with the team for all needs to accomplish the assigned task
