What are the responsibilities and job description for the Singing Masterclass Instructor, Once on this Island position at ActUp Theater?
ActUp Theater is seeking a Singing Masterclass Instructor to help conduct a 1-day masterclass on vocal techniques. This role will be for the production of Once on this Island! This position provides an inclusive community for participants at any and all abilities to creatively challenge and express themselves through training and performance. Duties include creating a class focused on learning proper singing techniques such as proper vocal technique, warm-ups, emotional interpretation, and performance readiness.
This role will play a central role in management and supporting the work of ActUp Theater Arts Academy. At this spring’s ActUp Theater Arts Academy (ATAA), we will work with participants to sharpen their skills through a series of masterclasses that will propel their talent, improve their academic achievement, and empower them to explore their talent! ATAA will provide instruction from teaching artists, interactive training, and team building experiences. This exciting position will be an asset to ActUp Theater!
The masterclass will take place on February 22nd, 2025, from 9:00am-3:00pm.
Responsibilities
- Successfully teach group of youth and/or adults in disenfranchised communities (Ages 8-25)
- Ensure challenging vocal practice for a 1.5 hour class with selected song from the Once on this Island soundtrack
- Teach participants to be versatile in their expressions, emotions, and movement styles
- Focus on spacial and body awareness, singing range, and harmonies to further accelerate their training and give them a well-rounded facility
- Teaching age-appropriate creative movement, singing skills, student self-directed improvisation and composition, and interdisciplinary inquiry projects during and after school
- Collaborate with an assistant (1) to manage both classrooms
- Experienced in developing and channeling group dynamics for positive learning outcomes
- Experienced in using differentiated and culturally responsive instruction and restorative justice classroom management approaches with and for BIPOC students
- Highly motivated and motivating
- Serving students, teachers and communities similar to our demographics
- Supporting an organizational vision, mission, core values and programs similar to ActUp Theater
- Attend all staff meetings required for planning
- Communicate with the team for all needs to accomplish the assigned task
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocal and or singing education grounded in professional artistry
- Singing, improvisation, pedagogy, and performance
- Convene safe spaces that increase empathy and understanding
