Streets and Stormwater Operator II- Aquatics
PAY RATE: $18.23/HR

Position Summary:
This position performs general and specialized construction, maintenance and repair activities of rights-of-way, streets, and stormwater infrastructure. Employees in this classification receive specific instructions pertaining to the programming, desired results, and work procedures that are carried out under general supervision. Employee shall be assigned to one or several functions within the classification depending upon the needs of the department, including on-call duty.
This job title is held by employee’s responsible for:
- Lead on Aquatic Spray Team
- Aquatics and Rights-of-Way Mowing Team leads
- Mid and heavy level Equipmen Operator positions
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.
One or more of the duties listed below:
- Maintenance activities including, but not limited to stormwater system, streets, and rights-of-way.
- Operation of slope mowers, tractor mowers “bat wing” and “bush hog”.
- Lead on Aquatics Spray Team (Aquatics Pesticide Control Spray License required).
- Lead on mowing crews with teams of (4) or more employees.
- Safely drive city equipment on roadways including pulling trailers and driving mowing equipment on roadways.
- Operate various riding mowers and hand tools such as weed eaters and edgers.
- Daily activities include mowing and maintenance of ditch, canals, ponds, and appurtenances.
- Maintains equipment and tools by greasing and cleaning. Services truck on a daily basis by checking fluid and oil levels.
- Works under all weather conditions to make repair and restore services to customers.
- Prepares daily activity sheets and other documentation as required.
- May be assigned to operate heavier equipment or alternate duties on temporarily, in emergency or for cross-training purposes.
- Must qualify and work standby duty rotation.
- Other job duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of the equipment, material and practices used in stormwater, streets, and rights-of-way infrastructure maintenance and repair.
- Ability to safely operate power hand tools, light equipment, and trucks.
- Ability to make independent action without constant supervision.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, supervisors and the public.
- Ability to work in/or around traffic, along side ditches, ponds, and canals safely.
- Ability to be a dedicated, supportive member of our team.
- Ability to lead or direct a crew of 3 or more employees
- Ability to perform manual work under adverse weather condition for extended periods of time.
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalent diploma.
- Experience operating industrial mowing equipment and the ability to transition to the operation of slope mowers and tractor mowers
Certificates and Licenses:
- Valid Class “B” CDL Florida driver's license (Preferred)
- Current Florida Department of Transportation Approved Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) Intermediate Certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months.
- Florida Stormwater Association Stormwater Operator – Level I or ability to obtain within six (12) months.
- Aquatics pesticide spray license (when holding position of lead on spray crew)
