Position summary:

The Controls Engineer will be responsible for supporting manufacturing operations, creation, delivery, and implementation of continuous improvement solutions, and developing electrical and controls system design solutions based on engineering principles.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Spend time on the floor to troubleshoot and correct issues to improve processes with automation projects
  2. Troubleshoot and support production equipment using several common systems (PLC, Vision, Robotics, Lasers), or other control platforms as required
  3. Work with many different aspects of controls, from system definition to design and programming
  4. Integrate hardware and software solutions for manufacturing
  5. Define necessary capital controls equipment for projects
  6. Vision Systems (Keyence, Cognex, and Senso Part)
  7. PLC programing Languages and HMI systems used (Allen Bradley, and GE/Emerson)
  8. Robot brands (Fanuc, Denso, Epson, and ABB)
  9. Experience designing, creating, and updating electrical prints
  10. Analyze plant processes to reduce downtime and scrap for better machine efficiency
  11. Mentor Controls Technicians, Controls Apprentice and Assembly technicians as directed by Management.
  12. Work from and update the project-tracking list assigned by Controls Engineering Manager.

Education & Experience:

  1. High School Diploma
  2. A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with mechanical aptitude/experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree in Controls Engineering with automation training/experience; or an Associate’s Degree in Electronics/Industrial Electronics and a completed apprenticeship in a related field; or similar.
  3. At least 3 years of experience in Automation/Controls Engineering and/or Manufacturing Engineering with controls experience

Preferred Experience:

  1. 3 years of automation/controls in a manufacturing environment
  2. Robotic integration experience a plus
  3. Be versatile in multiple platforms or circuitry and programming languages
  4. Automation equipment in molding, paint, and assembly departments not excluding robotics, PLC/HMI’s, vision, conveyors, smart actuators, laser marking systems, drives, or any other automation equipment
  5. Experience with multiple programming software platforms for PLC, Vision, Robotics, and Servo Actuators
  6. Rockwell Automation integrators certification a plus
  7. Experience in Electronics sensors and test equipment

Non-Essential Responsibilities:

  1. All other duties as assigned

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Support daily needs of Production in the event of machine downtime
  2. Strong communication skills and a positive attitude
  3. A team-based, creative, and analytical approach to problem solving
  4. Experience with interpreting a customer’s specification and translating it into design
  5. Experience with database applications, such as SQL Database is a plus
  6. Experience with collaborative robots is a plus
  7. Pneumatics or hydraulic experience is a plus
  8. Manage multiple projects/programs at one time
  9. Demonstrate ability to lead by mentoring and teaching technical teammates, and apprentices as needed
  10. Lead continuous improvement projects with your team
