Job Title: Surveyor Deputy
Department: Surveyor’s Office
Reports To: Surveyor
FLSA Status: Nonexempt
Principal Function: The Surveyor Deputyis responsible for the day-to-day requests of landowners and the Surveyor for tile needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:
1. Records tile and ditch repair requests from landowners including the creation of the repair orders and provides them to the Ditch Technicians daily.
2. Types and files authorization forms for brush spray landowners.
3. Completes claim vouchers for bi-monthly invoices and maintains accurate budget balances.
4. Maintains up-to-date section corner information to assist land Surveyors.
5. Assists citizens with research of old maps, land ownership questions, and drainage issues, as needed.
6. Sets daily appointments for the Surveyor.
7. Assists the Surveyor with private projects and County river projects.
8. Orders and maintains supplies for both the office and outside crews.
9. Assists the Surveyor with the annual budget to include: drainage maintenance; general drain improvement; surveyor budget; Perpetuating Cornerstone Fund; St. Mary and Wabash River Fund.
10. Calls in locates to 811, as needed.
11. Performs the duties of the Drainage Board Deputy, as needed.
12. Balances the Drainage Maintenance (DM) and General Drainage Improvement (GDI) accounts with the Drainage Board Deputy.
13. Completes administrative duties to include: attending meetings, reviewing statistics and reports, completing various reports, processing departmental payroll, approving invoices, answering inquiries, tracks paid time off for employees, etc., as needed.
14. Maintains an effective communication process with the Surveyor.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and three-years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous administrative experience is required. Previous experience working in a Surveyor’s Office is desired.

· Computer software skills required include: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Geographic Information System (GIS), ArcMap and Drain Calc.
· The ability to understand and remain up-to-date on drainage law, watersheds, townships, ditches and tiles is required.
· The ability to draft letters and place public notices with newspapers is required.
· A basic understanding of general accounting principles and practices and report writing, while paying close attention to detail is required.
- The ability to effectively communicate on a one-on-one basis with the public is required.
· The ability to work with other County offices internally and externally to resolve citizen issues is required.
· The ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while paying close attention to detail is required.
- The ability to attend meetings and seminars as requested is required.
- The ability to operate a computer, printer, copy machine, scanner, fax machine, and other office equipment is desired.
- The ability to speak, read and write in English is required. Spanish is desired.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally is exposed to working near moving mechanical parts and the risk of electrical shock when working with office equipment and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
While the offices of Adams County are usually open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, this position may require work beyond these hours and on the weekends. It also may require the ability to drive a County vehicle. Thus, a valid driver’s license may be required.
