Position Summary:The Adams County Sheriff's Office is seeking candidates who are interested in volunteering for the Posse auxiliary as a commissioned non-certified volunteer. The Posse volunteers will provide mounted equestrian assistance to the Sheriff's Office. They will represent the agency in community functions such as parades and special events. There will be opportunities for the Posse volunteers to assist in securing livestock for safety reasons and owner notification.

-Drive a one ton truck and horse trailerTo be considered for the Posse position, candidates must be 18 years of age; possess a HS Diploma or GED; possess a valid Colorado Drivers' License; have at least 20/40 corrected vision; be able to demonstrate equestrian proficiency at Grade Level I or II; and possess a horse and transportation for the Horse to report to events.
Candidates will participate in a selection process for this position which will include the following phases:
Phase I -- Oral Board Interview
This is a scored panel interview to assess the candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities to determine if the candidate meets the minimum qualifications for the position. The minimum acceptable average score is 70%.
Phase II -- Equestrian Testing
Candidates will be tested on their horsemanship skills. The test will be administered to both the candidate and horse to determine their ability to perform the duties required for this position. Candidates and horses must meet an acceptable performance level as defined in the policy and procedures. The test will consist of, but not be limited to, the horse and rider maneuvering through various obstacles, traffic, reaction to noises and other animals.
Phase III -- Integrity interview/Background Investigation
Candidates will be scheduled for an Integrity Interview and a thorough background investigation will be conducted.
Phase IV -- Psychological and Physical Exams
Candidates will be subject to a psychological evaluation and a physical examination.
