Position Description
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be proactive, efficient, and capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. The Legal Assistant will be responsible for tasks such as processing various legal documents, communication with clients, adjusters and counsel, providing administrative assistance, and supporting attorneys and paralegals in their daily tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Opening New Matters: Initiate and manage new client files and cases.
- Processing Pleadings: Prepare, review, and process legal pleadings and documents.
- Filing Online Court Documents: File and manage documents using various court filing systems.
- Calendaring: Maintain and update calendars for deadlines, depositions, hearings, phone calls, and scheduling orders.
- Drafting Documents: Draft various legal documents, including correspondence, motions, and briefs.
- Mailing: Handle all outgoing and incoming mail efficiently.
- Travel Arrangements: Coordinate travel arrangements for out-of-town depositions and other legal proceedings.
- Legal Notebooks: Prepare and maintain hearing, trial and other legal notebooks and as well as case-related materials.
- Answering Phone Calls/New Client Calls: Answer, providing customer service and answering questions from clients, and manage incoming phone calls, including meticulously taking information from potential new clients.
- Trial Support: Provide comprehensive support during trial preparations and proceedings.
- Requests from Paralegals and Attorneys: Assist paralegals and attorneys with various tasks and projects as needed.
- Courier: Receiving and making deliveries, running office errands, accepting payments for delivered items when necessary, obtaining signatures from recipients upon delivery, and potentially serving legal paperwork on recipients.
Qualifications (Required):
- Previous experience as a Legal Assistant or in a similar role.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications (Preferred):
- Familiarity with legal terminology and procedures
- Proficiency with legal software and case management systems
