Job Purpose
Develop, monitor, and lead an operations safety program with an emphasis on skills training for field employees.
Tasks
Coordinate hiring, evaluating, and training employees.
Assists in the design and layout of specific collection routes and schedules.
Supervises the work of Sanitation Equipment Operators
Trains crews on departmental operation policies, collection methods, and practices including public relations and safety.
Arranges for extra sanitation pickups and estimates charges.
Inspects collection routes and observes collection personnel for adherence to proper procedures and practices.
Investigates delays experienced by collection crews and takes appropriate corrective action.
Investigates and resolves customer complaints and makes appropriate recommendations.
Evaluate the performance of assigned crew members.
Investigates accidents and injuries and prepares reports of findings.
Approves timecards.
Prepares other records as assigned.
Reports hazardous conditions.
Maintains crew safety and conducts safety and training meetings.
Investigates illegal dumps, incidents, and injuries - including gathering evidence and documentation.
Operates and automated refuse truck or other vehicles during periods of personnel shortage.
Assigns, monitors, and closes electronic work orders.
All other duties as assigned
To have knowledge of DOT safety regulations
To be proficient with Word, Excel, and Google Docs / Sheet
To have excellent communication skill
To be detail-oriented
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills; ability to manage teams, prioritize tasks, and ensure regulatory compliance.
Proficiency in waste management software and budgeting tools.
Requirements
To work in an environment that often smells musty, putrid, or rancid
To potentially work in an environment that has seasonally high heat or low temperatures due to being outdoors
To potentially work in an environment that has wet or humid conditions due to be being outdoors
To work near moving mechanical parts
Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent
5 Years in progressively responsible experience in refuse collection
Some experience in supervision and working with the public
