Addison Central School District is seeking a full time Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Restorative Practice beginning the 2025-2026 year for an anticipated vacancy.
The Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Restorative Practice will play a pivotal role in leading and supporting efforts to ensure that Addison Central School District (ACSD) creates and maintains an inclusive, equitable, and restorative learning environment for all students, staff, and families. The Director will provide visionary leadership to advance equity, inclusion and restorative practices across the district, ensuring that these principles are integrated into all aspects of the district’s policies, programs, and daily practices. Key indicators of success will focus on the amplification of all students’ and employee’s ability to contribute positively to the ACSD school community, transformation of conflict among students, employees, and families into productive pathways for success, and the strengthening of learning communities through greater understanding and respect and reduction of identity-based harm and divisive interactions. This role involves collaborating with educators, building and district leaders, families, and community stakeholders to foster an equitable environment of belonging, respect, and positive conflict transformation in accordance with the District’s strategic plan.
Key Responsibilities include:
-Leadership and Strategy Development:
-Lead the district’s equity, inclusion, and restorative practices initiatives, establishing clear goals, timelines, and accountability measures.
-Serve as a thought leader and change agent in promoting an equitable and inclusive school culture.
-Advise and support district leadership, building administrators, and staff in all program areas in the development of practices that advance equity and inclusion in both educational settings and organizational policies.
Restorative Practices and Discipline:
-Lead the integration and expansion of restorative practices across all schools to promote restorative justice, conflict transformation and resolution, and proactive, human centered approaches to managing student conduct.
-Provide professional development and coaching to staff on restorative practices, building understanding and capacity to implement these approaches in classrooms and at the school level.
-Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of restorative practices in reducing suspensions, expulsions, and disciplinary disparities, with a focus on racial, ethnic, and socio-economic equity.
Cultural Competency and Training:
-Contribute to district-wide professional development programs designed to build cultural competency, anti-bias education, and restorative practice skills for educators, staff, and administrators.
-Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and conversations focused on cultural and racial equity, social justice in order to broaden the District’s ability to attract and support a diverse population of learners, employees, and families.
-Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations, local agencies, and other stakeholders to strengthen efforts to become a more inclusive community within the district.
-Assist schools to implement curriculum, policies, and procedures in a manner that respects all religious & cultural values while creating environments that are safe for those from protected classes.
Student and Family Engagement:
-Develop and implement strategies for engaging students and families in equity and inclusion initiatives, ensuring that all voices are heard, respected, and valued.
-Serve as a resource for families and students in navigating issues of inclusion, access, and equity within the district.
-Advocate for the needs and concerns of marginalized groups, and work to ensure equitable access to educational opportunities for all students.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
-Collect, analyze, and report on data related to student outcomes, discipline, school climate, and inclusionary metrics to assess progress toward equity goals.
-Use data to identify disparities in achievement, behavior, and opportunity, and develop strategies to address these gaps.
-Regularly report on the progress of equity and inclusion initiatives to the school board, administrators, and the broader community.
Policy Development and Compliance:
-Review and recommend revisions to district policies and practices to ensure they align with equity, inclusion, and restorative justice principles.
-Stay informed of state and federal regulations related to equity, inclusion, and restorative practices, ensuring district compliance and best practice implementation with Title IX and VT Hazing, Harassment, and Bullying legal requirements.
-Provide guidance on legal and regulatory issues related to civil rights, non-discrimination, and educational equity.
Community Partnerships and Advocacy:
-Foster relationships with local organizations, cultural groups, and advocacy organizations to support equity and inclusion initiatives and restorative practices in the community.
-Serve as the district’s primary representative for equity and inclusion issues in public forums, district meetings, and community partnerships.
-Advocate for resources and funding to support equity, inclusion, and restorative practice work, including grants, collaborations, and partnerships.
The successful candidate must possess the following:
-Must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Education, Social Justice, Psychology, Sociology, or related field. Doctoral degree is a plus.
-Minimum of 5 years of experience in education or related fields, with at least 3 years of leadership experience in equity, inclusion, restorative practice, or social justice initiatives.
-Excellent communication and writing skills
-Expertise in restorative justice and restorative practices, including conflict transformation and resolution, and community-building strategies.
-Strong understanding of equity, inclusion, and anti-bias frameworks in education.
-Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire a wide range of audiences, including students, educators, parents, and community stakeholders.
-Proven ability to lead change and drive cultural transformation, preferably within an educational setting.
-Familiarity with data systems and the ability to use data to drive decision-making and measure impact.
-Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, including teachers, administrators, students, families, and community partners.
