Overview

The State of Vermont is seeking a Director for the State's Office of Health Equity to advance health equity across state government. This position will work closely with state agencies, community organizations, and other partners to develop and implement a strategy of health equity for historically marginalized populations, including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, LGBTQ individuals, and those with disabilities.

The ideal candidate will be a proven leader and able to communicate vision and strategy to staff and partners. They will also have an extensive background managing internal and external partnerships with diverse groups of stakeholders, along with program experience in public health with a focus on equity issues.

Responsibilities include :

  • Develop, implement, and oversee a strategic plan that integrates innovative strategies that promote health equity for marginalized and underserved Vermonters.
  • Provide technical assistance and make recommendations to all branches of government on strategies, policies and practices that embed health equity and social determinants of health principles across state government.
  • Build collaborative partnerships with communities including provision of technical assistance and administration of grants to community-based organizations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on committees and task forces including those that address objectives relative to health equity, antiracism and accessibility.
  • Utilize data, both quantitative and qualitative, to better understand marginalized communities' needs, challenges and the disparities that affect their health, mental health and overall well-being.
  • Represent the health equity issues of the people of Vermont across state government and at meetings with external stakeholders and work in collaboration with the Director of the Office of Racial Equity to ensure alignment of goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate cutting-edge strategies related to health equity and keep abreast of pertinent regulations, laws and policies.
  • Perform other related duties.
