AP Payroll Specialist (Contract to Hire)

Position Title: AP / Payroll Specialist (Contract to Hire)

Hybrid/In office/Remote: 4 days/ week in office, 1 day remote in Chicago, IL 60614

Pay: $30-$36/hr

Key Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable:

- Review payables for accuracy, coding, and approval, ensuring timely payment

- Approve weekly independent contractor payments

- Manage vendor relationships and resolve account discrepancies

- Categorize corporate credit card expenses and oversee 1099 issuance

Payroll:

- Submit biweekly payroll via ADP (or similar software), for both salary and commission pay

- Ensure accurate pay rates, PTO hours and deductions

- Generate payroll Journal Entries and manage third-party reporting/payments to state agencies.

- Oversee annual W-2 issuance

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

- 3-5 years of accounts payable and payroll experience

- Strong knowledge of AP best practices, double-entry bookkeeping, and basic accounting

principles

- Experience with multi-state payroll processing and third-party system (e.g., ADP)

- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills, with the ability to handle high volumes of

communication and tasks.

- Proficiency in Excel; Experience with QuickBooks Online is a plus.

- Strong communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
